Each week, we discuss a portion of Holy Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions. If you'd like your own copy of the Lutheran Confessions, click here!
As you study the Scriptures, Lutheran Confessions, or any other devotional material, consider the four points from Luther’s A Simple Way to Pray (Concordia Publishing House, 2012): (1) instruction, (2) thanksgiving, (3) confession, and (4) prayer.
You may also wish to ask yourself how a text might be teaching you, reproving false teaching in your life, correcting your behavior, training you to live as a Christian, or consoling you as you suffer now. These five different points are called the five uses of Scripture. They are drawn from 2 Timothy 3:16 and Romans 15:4.
On this page, you'll see what the saints at St. John's are studying each week as well various aids for the study of Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions at home.
May God the Father send you the Holy Spirit that you would gain a better understanding of His Word and live according to it. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
